Our Home

Malyon House

Our home is situated in Heath Street – just a few steps behind the Central Parade Shopping Centre. We are a friendly aged care facility catering for the needs of our 57 residents.

For five years running, Malyon House was the proud winner of the award for Best Aged Care Facility (over 40 beds) in the North Island from Aged Advisor. We received many favourable reviews from residents, family members, and staff, which contributed to us winning this amazing award three years running.

Accommodation

We have 55 single rooms, and one double room. These areas each have their own living/dining area and bathrooms. We have a telephone for our residents’ use, and most rooms have individual jack points for personal telephones if you wish.

Facilities

  • All rooms have electric heating
  • We are fully protected with monitored sprinklers and smoke alarms
  • There are 5 separate lounge areas, plus decks and outdoor areas

Healthcare

Residents are either visited at the home by our contracted GP or Nurse Practitioner, or attend their own doctors’ surgeries for medical care.

Our pharmacist pre-packages all medications for all of our clients.

We encourage families to take residents to hospital outpatient appointments, but if they are unavailable one of the staff members will accompany them.

Dining

Breakfast is usually served in bed unless otherwise preferred. Food is prepared on site daily by our cooks, and there is always fresh baking with morning or afternoon tea. Diabetic and other special diets are catered for. Meals are served in individual dining areas in each wing. Tea and coffee making facilities are available for those who enjoy an additional cuppa. We have the NZ Herald and the Bay of Plenty Times delivered daily – personal copies can be arranged.

Activities

We have an activities team, led by our Diversional Therapist, responsible for activities and outings on duty everyday. A wheelchair hoist in our van ensures that everybody can get out and about as they are able.
